Poet Rupert McCall came into our changing room before play, and read the Ashes poem he had just finished. He’s an amazing poet and a very well-spoken man. For me personally, having always cared greatly about the history of the game, I found it an emotion-charged recital. Rupert’s poem goes right back to the inception of the Ashes in 1882 and takes in some great Australian and English players all the way to the present day. It was very inspiring for us to listen to.
